Nolan Wayne - Dance Instructor in Austin, TX

Meet Nolan

Hi, I'm Nolan Wayne, a professional dancer and instructor in Austin. I've spent over 10 years competing and teaching different dance styles, including Ballroom, Country, Swing, and more. I've also danced several years in Dancing with the Stars Austin, a Center for Child Protection charity fundraiser that's raised over $2 million annually for kids in the Austin area.

The students I love teaching most are the ones who walk in convinced they have no rhythm at all. If you've never taken a lesson, never had a partner, or just always wanted to learn, you're in the right place. I keep things relaxed and work at your pace, and break everything down into simple steps. I think dancing should be fun, so my main focus is making sure you have a great time.

I teach all of my students with patience and zero judgment, regardless of gender or orientation. Come as you are, and let's get you moving.

Let's Talk

Styles I Teach

Pick a style that excites you, or tell me what you'd like to learn and we'll find the right fit. Most students start with zero experience.

Ballroom

Beginner & Social Friendly

Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba, Cha Cha, and more. Elegant, classic, and a wonderful place to start if you've never danced. We'll build your fundamentals one step at a time.

Country

Beginner to Advanced

Two-step, country waltz, and Texas dance-hall favorites. Great for first-timers, and since I competed at the top levels of country-western, I can also take social and experienced dancers to the next level.

Swing

Beginner & Social Friendly

Bouncy, playful, and a blast at any party. East Coast Swing and nightclub favorites that get you comfortable leading or following on a social floor.

How It Works

Three simple steps from "I can't dance" to actually dancing

1

Reach Out

Share what you'd like to learn and where you're starting from. No experience needed, it's where most students begin. From there, you'll settle on a style and a goal for your lessons.

2

Learn

Lessons build on the fundamentals at your pace, broken into simple, manageable steps. Every session stays low-pressure and fun, and you'll leave with practice videos to take home.

3

Dance

Before long you'll be moving with real confidence, ready for a night out, a social floor, an event, or just the joy of finally being able to dance.

I'd love to hear how it went. I read every one, and if you're okay with it I might add your words here.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know before your first lesson

More than okay, it's my specialty. The vast majority of my students start with zero experience. I break every move into simple, manageable steps and we go entirely at your pace. You don't need rhythm, coordination, or any background. You just need to show up.

Nope! I teach plenty of solo students, and you can learn to lead or follow without bringing anyone along. If you do have a partner you'd like to learn with, that's great too. Either way works.

Whatever excites you most! Country two-step is a fantastic, fun entry point here in Texas. Ballroom is wonderful if you love something classic and elegant, and swing is hard to beat for pure fun. Not sure? Tell me what you enjoy and I'll recommend a great starting point.

Absolutely, especially in country-western, where I competed at the top levels. If you already social dance, I can refine your technique, expand your move vocabulary, and sharpen your styling. Swing and ballroom lessons can be tailored to intermediate dancers as well.

It depends on your goals. A few lessons are enough to get comfortable with the basics of a style, while ongoing weekly lessons are great if you want to keep growing. There's no required package. We'll figure out a rhythm that fits your goals and budget.

Your choice: in-home (I come to you), at a partner studio across Austin with professional floors and mirrors, or virtually over video if you're not local. Whatever's most comfortable and convenient for you.
