Hi, I'm Nolan Wayne, a professional dancer and instructor in Austin. I've spent over 10 years competing and teaching different dance styles, including Ballroom, Country, Swing, and more. I've also danced several years in Dancing with the Stars Austin, a Center for Child Protection charity fundraiser that's raised over $2 million annually for kids in the Austin area.
Most of my work now is with couples, either preparing for their first dance or getting into social dancing. I keep things relaxed and work at your pace. I think dancing should be fun, so my main focus is making sure you both have a great time learning whatever we decide on.
I work with all couples, regardless of gender or orientation. Tell me about your wedding and the song you have in mind, and we'll go from there.
Let's TalkThree steps, from first lesson to first dance
We'll chat about your vision, your song, and your comfort level. This is where we get to know each other and start planning your dance.
I'll build the choreography around your song, your style, and what you're comfortable with, then we'll keep practicing until it feels like second nature.
On the day, you step out and dance. No counting steps in your head, no nerves, just the two of you.
What couples are saying
"We wanted a country two-step to our song and Nolan nailed it. He kept it simple enough that even my husband looked good out there. The video of our first dance is still my favorite part."
"Nolan choreographed a waltz for us and it turned out to be one of the most special parts of the entire day. My grandmother was in tears. He was endlessly patient, never once made us feel rushed, and somehow made it both elegant and easy at the same time. We are so grateful we found him."
"I was so nervous about our first dance, honestly losing sleep over it. Nolan kept every lesson relaxed and made us feel comfortable the whole way. By the wedding I was excited. Best money we spent."
"We asked for swing with a little lift at the end and Nolan made it happen, and made sure we felt confident with it. The crowd went nuts. We're going to keep taking lessons for fun."
"Loved working with Nolan. Would recommend to anyone."
"Our song didn't have an obvious beat and I figured it couldn't work. Nolan listened to it and came back with something that just fit. People thought we'd trained for a year."
"My husband will be the first to tell you he has no rhythm, and he dreaded the first dance more than the vows. Nolan was so patient with him, taking it slow and staying with it until everything finally clicked. Watching him confidently spin me in front of all our family and friends is a memory I will treasure forever. Thank you, Nolan, truly."
"Best decision we made for the wedding, besides the open bar."
"We only had about five weeks and I kind of panicked. Nolan fit us in, kept it simple, and we pulled off a foxtrot that looked way harder than it was."
"10/10. so fun."
"We wanted something that felt like us, not a stiff routine. Nolan got our vibe right away and built the dance around it. Our photographer said it was the most fun first dance she'd shot all year."
"We don't live in Austin so we did the whole thing over video. Wasn't sure about it going in. Nolan watched us through the laptop, fixed the little things, and sent clips to practice. Day of, it came together perfectly."
"Nolan made the whole thing way less scary than I'd built it up to be in my head."
"We surprised our families with a dip at the end and the room lost it. Nolan walked us through every bit until we had it. We actually looked like we knew what we were doing."
I'd love to hear how the big day went. I read every one, and if you're okay with it I might add your words here.
A few moments from a wedding here in Austin
Everything you need to know before we start
Absolutely! Most of my couples come to me with zero dance experience, and that's completely fine. I specialize in breaking down moves into simple, manageable steps. By the end of our sessions, you'll look like you've been dancing together for years. Trust the process. I've never had a couple who couldn't pull it off.
Most couples book 4-6 sessions, which gives us enough time to learn the choreography and build confidence. If you're looking for something simpler (a classic sway with a few highlights), 2-3 sessions might be enough. For a show-stopping routine with lifts or complex moves, plan for 6-8 sessions. We'll figure out the right number during your consultation.
I recommend starting lessons 2-3 months before your wedding. This gives us plenty of time to learn, practice, and polish without feeling rushed. That said, I've worked with couples as close as 3 weeks out, and we just adjust expectations accordingly. The sooner you book, the more flexibility we have with scheduling.
Yes! I've choreographed dances to everything from Ed Sheeran ballads to country classics to 80s power ballads. If you haven't chosen your song yet, I can help you pick one that fits your vibe and is dance-friendly. Some songs work better than others, but I can make almost any song work with the right approach.
Very common! I'll create choreography that plays to both of your strengths. The more experienced partner might get a few extra flourishes, while I'll make sure the less experienced partner has moves they feel confident with. The goal is for both of you to shine and feel comfortable.
Yes! Mother-son and father-daughter dances are special moments too. I offer single sessions or mini-packages specifically for parent dances. We can keep it simple and elegant, or add a fun surprise element, whatever fits your relationship and comfort level.
Every couple's different, so we'll put together something that fits your timeline and budget
